After an impressive showing in his first start of the season, New York Yankees outfielder Matt Carpenter is hoping to return to the lineup by the end of August.
Carpenter, 36, went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs in the Yankees' 6-4 win over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. He was removed from the game in the fifth inning with left foot soreness.
Carpenter said after the game that he is "feeling good" and is hoping to avoid a stint on the injured list. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Wednesday to determine the extent of the injury.
