Joe Root Reaches 10,000 Test Runs
A Milestone Achievement
Joe Root has become the second England batter to score 10,000 Test runs after scoring a century on day four of the first Test against New Zealand at Lords. Root reached the milestone with a four off the bowling of Tim Southee, and he went on to score 115 before being caught by Daryl Mitchell at mid-off.
Root is now the 14th player to score 10,000 Test runs, and he is the youngest English player to reach the milestone. He is also the first Yorkshireman to score 10,000 Test runs.
A Consistent Performer
Root has been a consistent performer for England throughout his career. He has scored over 9,000 runs in Test cricket at an average of over 50, and he has scored 20 centuries.
In 2021, Root scored 1708 Test runs, which was only 80 short of Mohammad Yousuf's record for a calendar year. Root also captained England to victory in the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
